RJD America continues to develop its baggage and support equipment, including the RJDX 1236 and RJDX 1223. RJDX 1236 is being developed as a support car capable of providing electrical power, storage for tools and equipment, and operational support for the fleet. RJDX 1223 is planned for future use as an additional support car, providing additional space for equipment and operating needs. These cars will play an important role in creating a more self-sufficient and capable heritage railroad operation.
The comprehensive restoration and federally required 1,472-service-day inspection of Chesapeake & Ohio Steam Locomotive No. 614 continues at Strasburg Rail Road Mechanical Services. Current work includes major boiler and firebox repairs, running-gear restoration, installation of new driver tires, staybolt work, cylinder and piston-system repairs, lubrication-system work, air-brake components, spring rigging, throttle repairs, and other mechanical systems. RJD America’s first-class lounge and sleeper car, RJDX 800451 Defender, arrived at the Strasburg Rail Road on May 9, 2026, following its movement from Arizona. Built by Pullman in 1947 as a coach for the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, the car was later converted into a lounge-and-sleeping car. Since its arrival, Defender has been receiving repairs and upgrades involving mechanical and electrical systems, passenger amenities, communications equipment, vestibule components, air systems, and other equipment necessary for future service. Defender is intended to provide first-class passenger accommodations, lounge space, and overnight facilities within the RJD America fleet.
RJD America is continuing work across its growing fleet of historic railroad equipment, including passenger cars, support cars, and specialized equipment intended to accompany C&O 614 during future operations. Current projects include mechanical repairs, electrical and power-system improvements, heating and air-conditioning upgrades, plumbing work, passenger amenities, onboard communications, and equipment-support systems. Each project is being developed to align with the equipment’s intended role within the larger RJD America fleet.
RJD America’s ex-Canadian National executive business car, RJDX 2006, is undergoing an extensive program of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, power-generation, and climate-control improvements. The car was constructed by National Steel Car in 1959 for Canadian National and later operated as an executive railroad car. Recent work has included new onboard tanks, generator system work, electrical improvements, plumbing upgrades, and heating and air conditioning repairs. Additional work continues to improve the car’s reliability, onboard systems, crew accommodations, and its ability to support future railroad operations, private events, and special movements.

Chesapeake & Ohio Steam Locomotive No. 614 arrived at the Strasburg Rail Road in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, marking the beginning of an important new phase in the locomotive’s preservation and restoration. The locomotive completed its journey from Clifton Forge, Virginia, after traveling over multiple participating railroads. At Strasburg, C&O 614 entered a comprehensive restoration program and a federally required 1,472-service-day inspection at Strasburg Rail Road Mechanical Services. The arrival represented the culmination of extensive planning, inspections, regulatory coordination, railroad cooperation, and logistical preparation.
C&O 614 departed Clifton Forge, Virginia, beginning its long-awaited movement to the Strasburg Rail Road in Pennsylvania. The move required extensive coordination involving RJD America, participating railroads, inspectors, contractors, and support personnel. The locomotive traveled with its auxiliary water tender and associated equipment as it began the journey toward its new restoration location.
